Reliance's Big Pictures has taken the makers of Nagesh Kukunoor's 'Aashayein' to court, claiming they will not release it because it is not commercial enough. BTown's poster boy John Abraham, obviously does not sell unless he bares his butt. Reliance's Big Pictures, that was all set to distribute 'Aashayein', has filed a case against the film's producers Percept Picture Company and T-Series because they felt that the film had not measured up to their expectations. The case has been filed in the Delhi High Court. Percept Picture Company and T-Series are now in a fix because they can't release the film until the legal tangle is resolved. Elaborating on why Big Pictures was unhappy with the film, our source from the company said, "We were not happy with Aashayein's final draft. We were promised something and they delivered something altogether different. Big Pictures had felt that the film would be a commercial proposition but it is, in fact, an art film." Nagesh's trusted lieutenant, Elahe Hiptoola, said that she was aware of the case. "But," she said, "A Nagesh Kukunoor film is a Nagesh Kukunoor film, no matter who acts in it. Nagesh is a terrific filmmaker. I don't understand why Big Pictures is unhappy with the film now. We had arranged a special screening for them in July. They saw the film and sent us a text message saying that they loved the film and John was brilliant in it." We sent a text message to Navin Shah, CEO Percept Picture Company, to check what exactly went wrong with the film, but Shah did not revert. Where does all this leave filmmakers like Nagesh Kukunoor, who do not follow the beaten track? Or does Reliance's objection to Aashayein stem from the fact that Nagesh's last film Bombay To Bangkok tanked at the box office?
A Chandigarh-based voluntary organisation Wednesday filed a complaint against Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan for allegedly smoking at a public place. According to the complaint, the Bollywood stars violated the tobacco control law by smoking inside the bogie of a train, while shooting for a movie at the Kurali railway station, in Mohali district, some 35 km from Chandigarh. "We have registered a written complaint against both of them with the Railway Protection Force Wednesday. A private news channel has the clippings of the actors while smoking at a public place," Hemant Goswamy, chairperson of Burning Brain Society, told IANS. "They have violated the provisions of section 4 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003. Besides, they have also violated the section 167 of the Railway Act that prohibits one from smoking at the railway station or inside the rail bogie," Goswamy said. Both actors came to Chandigarh Monday for the shooting of a Bollywood film. The same NGO also filed a complaint Tuesday against Devgan with the Chandigarh police and the director of health services for smoking at a public place. Devgan was also photographed by a photo journalist while smoking at the Chandigarh airport Monday.
