Giving up smoking can dramatically improve flagging sex lives, according to a study conducted by a Hong Kong university.
The University of Hong Kong study found 53.8 percent of smokers being treated for impotence said that their problems eased within six months of stubbing out their nicotine habits.
That figure compared to just 28.1 percent of men treated for erectile dysfunction who continued smoking, meaning quitters have a 91.5 percent greater chance of a better sex life.
Sophia Chan, a professor who helped conduct the survey, said erectile dysfunction was "very prevalent" in China and Asia and added that programmes to help smokers quit should be extended across the region.
Her colleague Lam Tai-hing said: "Smokers should be aware of such adverse effects from their smoking and should quit now to prevent erectile dysfunction and other diseases caused by smoking.
"In fact, erectile dysfunction patients who smoke can expect some quick benefits after quitting smoking."
More than 700 men suffering from erectile dysfunction aged 30 to 50 took part in the three-year study by the university's School of Public Health and Nursing.

Couples who have sex over four times a week before their wedding, barely have it once a week three years after tying the knot, a survey in Britain has found.Researchers found that before marriage, couples can hope to have sex more than four times a week. But after three years of married life, there is a dramatic drop in their sex life and most couples have sex just once every seven days. The survey was conducted among 3,000 married couple. Six out of ten couples think that marriage has completely ruined the excitement of having sex, Daily Mail reported.
Another astounding result of the survey was that just below half of all married couples said that their relationship was more like friends than lovers.
"Unfortunately, while you can be deeply in love with someone and want to spend the rest of your life with them, it is also possible to want more from the relationship," a spokesman for extra-marital dating service www.lovinglinks.co.uk was quoted as saying.
"A partner might be supportive, funny, intelligent, and kind, but if they don't inspire confidence in the bedroom, or don't meet expectations, sexually life can be frustrating," he added.
He said: "It is at times like this when eyes start to wander, and folks start to think about having a no-strings affair with someone else...We have good reason to believe many relationships are strengthened by a little out-of-marriage activity."
The survey revealed that 59 percent of couples think that their sex life had worsened after marriage.
Incidentally, eight in ten couples were in a sexual rut by having sex at the same time, in the same place and in the same positions every time they slept together.
As a matter of fact, 79 percent of the respondents were happier getting a good night's sleep than making the effort to have spontaneous sex in the middle of the night.
Two thirds of the couples who had an affair admitted that sex was mind-blowing compared to the once-a-week sex with their husband or wife.
A fifth were ready to have a one-night stand if the opportunity presented itself or if their sex life with their partner didn't improve. And nearly a quarter said they had a one-night stand to satisfy their craving for good sex.
The Loving Links spokesman said: "Modern marriages are becoming a little more open where sex is concerned, and these days we are quicker to forgive if someone has a little one-night stand."
The results of the survey showed that almost two thirds of the respondents blamed their hectic lifestyle for their unhappy sex life and 80 percent were often too tired to bother once the day is over.

Rubbishing allegations of sexual misconduct levelled against him by a woman hockey player, the Indian women hockey team coach, Maharaj Krishan Kaushik, on Wednesday said he was being framed in a sinister conspiracy.
Putting up a brave face while speaking to reporters in the national capital, Kaushik stated that weak players, who failed to make it to the national team and required such a controversy to boost their sagging careers, had filed the complaints.
"Nothing has happened. That girl had become the captain of the junior team, but her performance was not up to the mark. She fared very poorly in the tournaments. Everyone can see how she played on video cassettes that we have of the matches. We even invited her to a special coaching camp to improve her game. But if she feels that she cannot make it big, it is her problem," said Kaushik.
Kaushik's scathing comments signal the beginning of a bitter brawl that could bring more skeletons out of the closet for Hockey Indian, suggested media reports.
Meanwhile, Kaushik has withdrawn his name from the upcoming Asian Champions Trophy in South Korea on moral grounds, saying that he wanted to come clean from the scandal.
Expressing his disappointment with the players, he opined that all charges levelled against him were baseless and had absolutely no truth to them.
"I have been called for the meeting and I will keep my things over there with them. You will all get to know about the meeting. The allegations are all baseless and nothing is true," said Kaushik.
He added that hockey was his passion and that he would continue to promote the game once he was absolved of the scandal.
Meanwhile, Hockey India (HI) has set up a high-level committee comprising experts and former players to probe the matter.

Reliance's Big Pictures has taken the makers of Nagesh Kukunoor's 'Aashayein' to court, claiming they will not release it because it is not commercial enough. BTown's poster boy John Abraham, obviously does not sell unless he bares his butt. Reliance's Big Pictures, that was all set to distribute 'Aashayein', has filed a case against the film's producers Percept Picture Company and T-Series because they felt that the film had not measured up to their expectations. The case has been filed in the Delhi High Court. Percept Picture Company and T-Series are now in a fix because they can't release the film until the legal tangle is resolved. Elaborating on why Big Pictures was unhappy with the film, our source from the company said, "We were not happy with Aashayein's final draft. We were promised something and they delivered something altogether different. Big Pictures had felt that the film would be a commercial proposition but it is, in fact, an art film." Nagesh's trusted lieutenant, Elahe Hiptoola, said that she was aware of the case. "But," she said, "A Nagesh Kukunoor film is a Nagesh Kukunoor film, no matter who acts in it. Nagesh is a terrific filmmaker. I don't understand why Big Pictures is unhappy with the film now. We had arranged a special screening for them in July. They saw the film and sent us a text message saying that they loved the film and John was brilliant in it." We sent a text message to Navin Shah, CEO Percept Picture Company, to check what exactly went wrong with the film, but Shah did not revert. Where does all this leave filmmakers like Nagesh Kukunoor, who do not follow the beaten track? Or does Reliance's objection to Aashayein stem from the fact that Nagesh's last film Bombay To Bangkok tanked at the box office?

A Chandigarh-based voluntary organisation Wednesday filed a complaint against Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan for allegedly smoking at a public place. According to the complaint, the Bollywood stars violated the tobacco control law by smoking inside the bogie of a train, while shooting for a movie at the Kurali railway station, in Mohali district, some 35 km from Chandigarh. "We have registered a written complaint against both of them with the Railway Protection Force Wednesday. A private news channel has the clippings of the actors while smoking at a public place," Hemant Goswamy, chairperson of Burning Brain Society, told IANS. "They have violated the provisions of section 4 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003. Besides, they have also violated the section 167 of the Railway Act that prohibits one from smoking at the railway station or inside the rail bogie," Goswamy said. Both actors came to Chandigarh Monday for the shooting of a Bollywood film. The same NGO also filed a complaint Tuesday against Devgan with the Chandigarh police and the director of health services for smoking at a public place. Devgan was also photographed by a photo journalist while smoking at the Chandigarh airport Monday.

In two related studies, researchers have found that 54 percent of adolescents frequently use social networking Web sites (SNSs) like MySpace as a platform to discuss high-risk activities including sexual behaviour, substance abuse or violence.
The studies, `Adolescent Display of Health Risk Behaviors on MySpace`, and `Reducing At-Risk Adolescents` Display of Risk Behavior on a Social Networking Web Site`, were led by research fellow Megan A. Moreno, MD, MPH, MSEd, and Dimitri Christakis, MD, MPH, of the Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development at Seattle Children`s Research Institute, and the University of Washington.As SNSs like Facebook.com and MySpace.com are getting increasingly popular, parents and those who work with teens fear that these sites might expose teens to ill-intentioned online predators, cyberbullies and increased peer pressure. They are also concerned that university enrolment and future hiring decisions also suffer by the content posted online by adolescents in their personal profiles.In the first study, the researchers collected information directly from 500 randomly chosen MySpace profiles of self-reported 18-year-old males and females from the United States. They examined the extent to which high-risk behaviours were reported in the profiles, as well as any correlations that suggested that certain behaviours may be influenced by other items, interests or activities. It was found that 54 percent of the MySpace profiles contained high-risk behaviour information, with 41 percent referencing substance abuse, 24 percent referencing sexual behavior and 14 percent referencing violence. Also, the study revealed that females were less likely to display violent information than males, and teens who reported a sexual orientation other than "straight" showed increased displays of references to sexual behaviours. Profiles that demonstrated church or religious involvement were associated with decreased displays of risky behaviours, and same went for profiles that indicated engagement in sports or hobbies."Online displays of risky behaviours may actually just be displays. Some teens may be grandstanding, or may be indicating intention or considered behaviour. If that`s the case, then there`s a silver lining because this presents opportunities for education and prevention before risky behaviour takes place. When online displays of dangerous behaviour discuss actual behaviours, the good news is that teens may be amenable to participating in online interventions. Our related study looked at this, and we were happy to see that even a brief email intervention may be feasible and showed promise for influencing online behavior," said Moreno.Focussing on 190 self-described 18 to 20-year olds with public MySpace profiles that met study criteria for being at-risk, the profiles received a single intervention email from "Dr. Meg," the physician online profile of Moreno, who became a MySpace member.The scientists observed that at the beginning of this study, 54 percent of subjects referenced sex and 85 percent referenced substance use. After the email intervention, 13 percent of the profiles decreased references to sex behaviours, and 26 percent decreased their substance use references. Ten percent of the profiles changed their security listings from "public" to "private," and a total of 42 percent of the profiles implemented any of these three protective measures. Of those who received the email intervention females were most likely to eliminate sexual references.Based on the results from both studies, the researchers concluded that SNS are readily available tools to identify displayed health information and also to communicate with teens about these displays, and they are another way parents and physicians can learn about how adolescents make health-related choices. The researchers further added that adolescence is a period of identity exploration, which now includes online identity, and adolescents may be open to communicating with health professionals about their online displays. The studies are published in the January issue of Archives of Paediatric & Adolescent Medicine.

Compliments notwithstanding, Jiah is nowhere to be seen in the film’s promos. In fact it’s obvious by now after seeing ‘Ghajini’ posters that it’s Aamir who’s hogging the limelight. Southern actress Asin who is making her way into Bollywood through this flick by playing the main lead, too is getting less attention.
Whatever be the reason, ‘Ghajini’ is being promoted in a big way and will be released with 1200 prints all over India. And as far as Jiah is concerned, the lady may be the surprise package and that’s why she has been relegated. Well, it’s heard that she has done a Jennifer Lopez act by dancing to the tune of spunky and chic song ‘Lattoo’.
It remains to be seen what ‘Ghajini’ will do for Jiah and her career. At least there isn't an old dude drooling over her legs in this film.

'That very irony makes this character so interesting to depict on screen', smiles Chitrangda, 'Here I am a mature woman who is so very ambitious while on the other hand I get involved with a man who is an aspiring politician. These are the very extremes that this woman goes through in her life. She becomes completely selfish in her profession while when it comes to love, she is just so selfless.'
So who is going to be her Devdas in the film?
'Well, let Pritish Nandy, my film's producer or Sudhir Mishra answer this. They want to disclose the name on their own. I know for sure though that Lara Dutta is the other leading lady in the film', says Chitrangda.
Does this mean that there is no surety about Shiney Ahuja playing Devdas? The speculation comes from the fact that when the film was announced way back in 2007, Shiney was said to have been signed for the role of the central protagonist. With Chitrangda not quite revealing any names here, it only adds on to the doubt.

This is the first time a game is being developed along with a Bollywood movie. Most of the Bollywood games produced to date have been mobile games or flash based ones and such games don’t deserve attention span of more than 10 to15 minutes. But a full fledged, movie based game however, comes in a different league altogether.
But making a game which can be sold in India alone is a stupid idea for the market is minuscule here. And most of the gamers snap up a pirated copy to play. This is where Indian Diaspora steps in. NRIs are crazy about Bollywood and anything Indian, even more than many Indians in India. So here lies a solid market. They can afford to pay $50 for a game, will love it if it’s good, will hate it and may never again buy a Bollywood movie based later on if it’s bad.
Lets face it, movie based games, no matter which country or studio they are from, suck. The Ghajini game, if good, might become a case-study for game developers in western countries. They would surely want to know how Ghajini succeeded where their games didn’t.

Amir Ghajini Banned in Tamil Nadu

Asin is a craze in Tamilnadu as is actor Surya and the original Ghajini, and the whole state eagerly anticipated Aamir Khan's remake - its a big disappointment.
Ghajini ran into trouble today over alleged copyright violation with the Madras High Court staying its screening and a separate petition seeking similar action was moved in Bombay High Court.
The interim injunction in Chennai was granted by Justice P R Shivakumar on a civil suit filed by A Chandrasekharan, claiming to be the copyright holder for remaking and dubbing of the Tamil film.
In Mumbai, KBC Pictures, a lesser-known company, approached the High Court, claiming it possesses copyright to the story and screenplay of the film and sought a stay on the movie's release. The petition was filed on Monday and would come up for hearing on Wednesday.
On the other hand, Chandrasekharan claimed he had only parted with the Chennai city rights, Telugu remake and dubbing rights and satellite rights and retained all other rights of Ghajini.
He contended that in April he had come to know that the Chennai-based Geetha Arts Division of Allu Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the producers, and director A R Murugadoss were contemplating production of the film in Hindi and were negotiating with persons in Bollywood.He stated that he was 'surprised, shocked and perplexed' as to how Geetha Arts and Murugadoss could entertain any idea of producing the film in Hindi when they had not been given any rights.

The news that rocked the Indian film industry lately - Commissioner of Police Nanjil Kumaran got a complaint stating that Asin kidnapped her maid servant for sale in Mumbai red light areas*. The complainant, mother of the maid servant, made several allegations in the complaint. She stated that her daughter, employed at Asin's home used to visit her every month and she would also meet the daughter every week at Asin's home. "But I did not get to meet my daughter for the past six months," the mother alleged.

Asin, the actress was away for shooting in Mumbai. The police immediately wanted Asin to enquire about her maid's whereabouts. Asin, however, made it clear that the maid was with her and the maid she would fly down to Chennai with Asin. Likewise the maid also spoke to the police and said that Asin treated her well. The daughter alleged that she stopped visiting and refused to meet her mother on her own due to some differences over spending her hard-earned salary.

She also disclosed that Asin paid her Rs. 4500 per month and Rs. 200 every day. The maid also made it clear that she would continue to work with Asin. Asin did not speak to media people on this issue.
